For me, Thanksgiving dinner always started as a morning affair, complete with brunch-appropriate cocktails. The preparations began shortly after breakfast. When we would peel potatoes and mix stuffing, we would pour ourselves a bloody mary or mimosa. While there is always a place for the classics, improvements and homages are always welcome. Enter my boozy ode to a dish that always graces my family’s Thanksgiving table: cranberry relish. 

Ingredients

  • Geneve Gin
  • orange juice
  • spiced cranberry syrup
  • Prosecco
  • cranberries
  • orange peel (for orange twist)

Garnishing Your Cranberry Mimosa

Though many may prefer the out-of-the-can experience, my family features a version that includes fresh cranberries married with sweet orange zest, whirred together and allowed to marinate for a few days before serving. The flavor of that macerated cranberry and zing of orange is quintessential to my Thanksgiving experience. So when I sat down to craft the perfect Thanksgiving cocktail, I needed to look no further than an old standby. 

This cocktail combines the tart notes of cranberries and the warm spice of clove and cinnamon with the sweetness of orange and the malty, botanical undertones of Genenver to deliver a welcome twist to an old favorite. Reinvigorate your morning mimosa with a mix of flavors that will make you extra thankful.

HOW TO MAKE A CRANBERRY MIMOSA

Cranberry Mimosa

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker

Ingredients 

  • 1 oz Genever Gin will also work
  • 1 oz Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice
  • 1 oz Spiced Cranberry Syrup
  • 2-3 oz Prosecco
  • 6 Whole Cranberries to garnish
  • 1 Orange Twist to garnish

Instructions 

  • Combine Genever, Orange, and syrup in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake.
  • Strain into a champagne flute.
  • Top with Prosecco.
  • Garnish with frozen whole cranberries and an orange twist. 

Notes

To Make the Spiced Cranberry Syrup
In a pot on the stove, combine 2 cups water, 1 cup whole cranberries, juice of half an orange, 3 whole cinnamon sticks, and 1 tablespoon whole cloves. Bring to a simmer and continue heating until cranberries pop. Crush cranberries to release juices. Strain well. Return to pot and bring to a simmer. Stir in 1 cup granulated sugar. Let cool. Store in the fridge.

Non-Alcoholic Option for Cranberry mimosa

If you want to ditch the booze, swap the Prosecco for a non-alcoholic Sparkling Wine, like Noughty AF, or a sparkling apple cider. Instead of Genever, use a non-alcoholic spirit substitute like Seedlip, Bax Botanics, or Pentire
