Benefits of eating watermelon rind

Most of us simply toss out the watermelon rind after we are done cutting it up, right? Next time you enjoy a juicy watermelon, we encourage you to try eating the watermelon rind. Think of watermelon rind as a bonus ingredient when you have a whole watermelon. It is a blank canvas that can be seasoned and cooked in various ways. Pickled rind may be the most widely known way to try it, but it can also be candied, juiced, stewed, baked, and so much more!

Ingredients for Watermelon Rind Air Fryer Churros

  • 1 whole watermelon
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup cinnamon sugar mix
  • Chocolate sauce for dipping

How to Make Watermelon Rind Air Fryer Churros

First, wash and cut your watermelon. Once done, cut up the rind into “fries.” You can take off the skin if you prefer, but we feel like they hold up better if you keep it on.

Then, in a medium bowl, mix together your flour and cornmeal. Next, take your rind fries and roll them in the mixture.watermelon rind slices in air fryer

Then, spray the covered rinds with cooking spray, and place them in a single layer in the air fryer.

Next, cook in an air fryer at 400°F for 20 minutes (or until brown), flipping over every 5 minutes.

When they are done, let them cool on a cooling rack for at least 5 minutes. Then, melt your butter in a bowl. Have your cinnamon sugar mix in another bowl. Finally, roll the watermelon rinds in butter and then cinnamon sugar mixture. Place them on a sheet of parchment paper to absorb.
