How to Soften Sweet Potatoes

If you want to roast sweet potatoes instead of using canned yams, it’s super simple and there’s three methods you can use:

  1. Air Fryer – place 3 cleaned sweet potatoes in the air fryer basket. Poke the sweet potatoes with a fork and air fry at 370° for 40-50 minutes, until fork tender. Let cool for a few minutes before handling. Then open the sweet potato up and scoop out the inside for the sweet potato casserole.
  2. Oven – preheat the oven to 425°. Wash the potatoes and dry. Poke holes in the sweet potato and drizzle olive oil over the sweet potato. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 40-45 minutes, until fork tender. Again, allow to cool before handling and scoop out the inside of the sweet potato, leaving the flesh.
  3. Boiling – place sweet potatoes in a pot of boiling water. Simmer for 15-20 minutes or until fork tender and then drain. Allow to cool before handling and scoop out the sweet potato into a bowl.
