Homemade apple juice and apple cider are so simple to make at home. What we love about this juice recipe is that it contains two simple ingredients: apples and water!

What are the best apples for apple juice?

When it comes to choosing apples, it simply depends on your families favorite. If you have a favorite apple variety such as SweeTango, Envy, Cosmic Crisp or Granny Smith, they all work great. It’s simply the sweetness or tartness your family enjoys.

If using a tart apple you may want to add a little sugar to offset the flavors.

How do I strain the apples?

There are two methods you can use:

  1. Fine Mesh Strainer – a fine mesh strainer works great for straining the juice once blended. Use a spoon to move the mixture around to get the most apple juice.
  2. Cheesecloth – we used a cheesecloth over the top of a large measuring cup for this particular recipe. We placed small amounts of the blended apple into the cheesecloth and squeezed into the measuring cup, then removed the skin and blended apple to repeat the process until all the mixture was used.

Both options work well. You just want to make sure the peel and the blended apple itself doesn’t fall through when straining.

Using a spoon to move the mixture around the top of the strainer or cheesecloth.

Do apples need to be peeled to make apple juice?

No, there is no need to peel the apples as the strainer or cheesecloth will catch the skin of the apples.
