Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use frozen strawberries? It’s best to use fresh strawberries because they hold their shape better when dipped in chocolate. If using frozen, let them thaw completely and pat them dry to avoid excess moisture.

What type of chocolate should I use? The choice of chocolate depends on your personal preference! You can use milk, dark, or white chocolate. Dark chocolate gives a rich flavor, while milk chocolate adds sweetness, and white chocolate adds a creamy touch.

Do I need to use olive oil in the chocolate? Adding olive oil helps smooth out the melted chocolate, making it easier to pour or dip. However, if you donโ€™t have olive oil, you can use a small amount of butter or leave it out altogether.

Can I skip the coconut flakes? You can skip the coconut flakes if youโ€™re not a fan of coconut, but they add a delicious texture and flavor to the chocolate bites. Alternatively, you could use finely chopped nuts or sprinkles!

How do I know when the chocolate is fully melted? Stir the chocolate frequently as it melts to avoid burning. Once it’s smooth and glossy with no lumps, itโ€™s ready to use!

More Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make these ahead of time? Absolutely! These strawberry chocolate bites can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge. Theyโ€™ll stay fresh for a couple of days, but theyโ€™re best when enjoyed within 1-2 days for optimal flavor.

How can I store leftover chocolate bites? After the chocolate has hardened, store the strawberry chocolate bites in an airtight container in the fridge. Be sure to line the container with paper towels as the strawberries will loose moisture. If layering in a container, place paper towels in between each layer. This will keep the chocolate from melting and maintain the freshness of the strawberries.

What if my strawberries arenโ€™t perfectly heart-shaped? No worries! The heart shape doesnโ€™t have to be perfect. Simply slice them into a โ€œVโ€ shape at the bottom and create two small indentations at the top for the best effect. Our recipe developer used the bottom of icing tips. Imperfections are part of the charm!

Do I need to refrigerate the chocolate bites right away? After coating the strawberries with chocolate, you should place them in the fridge to allow the chocolate to harden and set properly. This usually takes about 15-30 minutes.

Substitutions and Variations

There are so many creative ways that you can create your own chocolate strawberry bites!

Coconut

If you prefer not to use coconut, you can sub for sea salt, crushed pistachios, sprinkles, or mini chocolate chips instead. You could also drizzle with peanut butter that has been warmed (easier to use), white chocolate, or more chocolate!

Chocolate

For the center, you can dip in the chocolate and fill the center with cream cheese icing or a thicker filling.

No Design

If you simply just want chocolate and strawberries, just dip sliced strawberries into chocolate and you have a quick and easy snack or dessert when the craving hits.
