This golden tomato hummus blends until smooth in a food processor. Then, drizzle with olive oil and cracked pepper and serve with fresh veggies, crackers, or as a creamy sandwich spread. It’s quick, full of flavor, and has the kids’ seal of approval.

We love dipping fresh veggies into hummus for an easy, on-hand snack that our kids can grab, no matter how young they are.

But what do you do when there isn’t any hummus left?

Here at The Produce Moms, running out of hummus is a big deal. We used to make a whole trip to the store to buy a brand-new batch until we discovered a new twist. It adds sweet, juicy flavor and is ready in less time than a “quick” grocery run—golden tomato hummus!

Golden tomato hummus is sponsored by NatureSweet®.

This hummus recipe is a simple blend of classic ingredients like chickpeas and garlic, but we added sesame oil, basil, and Golden Cherubs®. You still get the smooth, creamy consistency, but with layers of sweet, spicy, and peppery flavors mixed in.

If you’re not sure about adding tomatoes, try it one time and let your kids be the judge!

Tomato Hummus Ingredients

Golden Cherub Tomatoes, chickpeas, basil, sesame oil, garlic, basil, salt, and pepper

You only need about 5 ingredients to make your golden tomato hummus. However, be sure you have all of the ingredients for the most flavorful and creamy hummus. We highly recommend that you don’t leave anything out!

Golden Cherubs®

We used Golden Cherubs® because of their bright gold color, which keeps the traditional color of chickpea hummus. But more importantly, they are sweet with an unexpected zesty burst when they pop in the food processor. Their packaging is recyclable, resealable, and rinse-ready for a no-fuss prep—just rinse, pour, and recycle. Check out our free, downloadable eBook featuring NatureSweet® containers!

Chickepeas

One of the reasons we love dipping veggies in hummus is because of the protein and fiber it adds to snacks and lunches. Chickpeas are key to a thick, creamy, and spreadable consistency. With a mild nutty flavor, it’s the perfect canvas for adding extra produce to boost flavor while still being nutritious.

Seasoning

Although you’ll need salt and pepper, we also used fresh garlic, sesame oil, and basil to add that spicy, nutty, and peppery layer of flavor that makes this golden tomato hummus so addictive. Seriously, you’ll want it on everything!

How to Make Golden Tomato Hummus

From here, everything goes into the food processor, then garnish and serve. Yes, it’s that simple!

Drained and rinsed chickpeas in a food processor

Step 1: Drain and rinse.

We buy canned chickpeas for the most affordable price. Open the can, pour them into a strainer, and rinse off the excess liquid. Then, pour all of the chickpeas into the food processor. Rinse the golden tomatoes (right in package… a perk to buying NatureSweet® tomatoes – they serve as a colander) and pour them into the food processor as well. (We’ll blend it all together in a minute.)

Step 2: Puree the hummus ingredients.

Add the garlic clove, sesame oil, basil leaves, and salt, then pulse the golden hummus ingredients until combined and smooth in texture.

Too thick? Add ½ tablespoon of water at a time and pulse again.

Too watery? Add more chickpeas or Golden Cherubs® and blend.

Step 3: Transfer and garnish.

Pour the golden tomato hummus into a bowl and drizzle with olive oil, add a light dusting of fresh cracked black pepper, and garnish with halved Golden Cherubs. Serve with crackers, pita bread, or veggies for a nutritious, ready-in-minutes afternoon snack.
