Vidalia Onions, a Chef Favorite
Vidalia sweet onions are a favorite of chefs and home cooks alike. Vidalias are grown with special care only in Southern Georgia. Southern Georgia’s unique soil, water, and climate are what turn common Yellow Granex Onions into delectably sweet Vidalia onions.
Vidalia onions are also very mild, making them incredibly versatile. Typically onions are used within a dish to complement other flavors. Vidalias are no exception but because they are so mild and sweet, they can also be eaten alone as a side dish, like this one we’re sharing today.
Making Hot Honey Roasted Vidalia Onions
Hot honey roasted Vidalia onions are fork-tender, sweet with a little heat, and bursting with flavor. It’s the side dish you didn’t know you were missing… until now!
You can also serve hot honey roasted Vidalias on steaks, chicken sandwiches, and burgers. They turn an ordinary sandwich into 5-star restaurant-quality fare. It’s the perfect trick to pull out if you want to elevate a meal for special guests.
You would expect a recipe with such deep and complex flavors to be challenging, but not this one! Just three ingredients is all it takes โ honey honey, Vidalia onions, and butter.
If you are planning to serve your hot honey roasted Vidalias as a side dish, cut them into wedges leaving the root intact to prevent them from falling apart. If you plan to use them as a topping to burgers or steaks, cut them into thick slices.
