Ingredients
You only need a few simple ingredients:
- Grimmway Farms Cut & Peeled Baby Carrots
- Deli turkey, sliced
- Cheese, sliced or cut into pieces
- Skewers or food-safe picks

How to Make Carrot, Cheese & Turkey Skewers
Step 1: Prepare your ingredients
Because Grimmway Farms Cut & Peeled Baby Carrots are already washed and ready to eat, simply open the package and set the carrots aside.
Cut the cheese into bite-sized pieces, or you can simply buy it already cubed.
Fold or roll the sliced turkey and cut it into pieces that are easy to thread onto the skewer.
Step 2: Assemble the skewers
Thread a baby carrot, piece of turkey, and cheese onto your skewer.
Repeat the pattern until you’ve used all of your ingredients.
You can make each skewer the same or let the kids create their own combinations!
Step 3: Pack and enjoy!
Place the finished skewers into a lunchbox, snack container, or reusable food-storage container.
They’re ready to enjoy at school, at home, in the car, or wherever your busy day takes you.

How to Soften Baby Carrots for Wooden Skewers
This is an important tip if you’re using wooden skewers!
For the skewers pictured and shown in our video, we used metal skewers, so we were able to thread the baby carrots directly onto them.
If you’re using wooden skewers, baby carrots can be firm enough to make threading them difficult. To make them easier to pierce:
- Bring a small pot of water to a boil.
- Add the baby carrots and blanch them for about 2–3 minutes, just until they begin to soften slightly.
- Drain the carrots and immediately place them in an ice bath to stop the cooking process.
- Drain well and pat the carrots dry.
- Once cooled, carefully thread the softened carrots onto your wooden skewers.
You don’t want to fully cook the carrots. The goal is simply to soften them enough that they can be pierced easily while maintaining their delicious crunch.
The Produce Moms Tip
If you’re making these for lunchboxes, allow the carrots to cool completely and dry them well before assembling the skewers.
Make These Skewers Your Own
The best part about this easy snack is how customizable it is! You can always add more…
Try adding:
- Cherry tomatoes
- Cucumber pieces
- Blueberries
- Grapes
- Bell pepper
- Different varieties of cheese
- Cooked bacon
- Ham instead of turkey
You can even create different combinations for each child based on their favorite foods.

Back-to-School Lunchbox Idea
These Carrot, Cheese & Turkey Skewers are especially great for the back-to-school season.
Instead of packing another traditional sandwich, put a few skewers in a lunchbox alongside fresh fruit, crackers, yogurt, or another favorite snack.
They’re also a great option when you need something quick for those mornings when everyone is trying to get out the door.
And because the carrots are washed and ready to eat, Grimmway Farms makes it especially easy to add fresh produce to busy school-day meals.

Carrot, Cheese & Turkey Skewers for On-the-Go Snacking
These aren’t just for school!
Keep the ingredients in the refrigerator and assemble a few skewers before heading out for:
- Sports practices or games
- After-school activities
- Road trips
- Picnics
- Pool days
They’re an easy way to make a portable snack a little more fun.

How to Store
For best quality, store assembled skewers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Because turkey and cheese are perishable foods, keep the skewers chilled until you’re ready to eat them. For lunchboxes, use an insulated lunch bag with an ice pack to keep them cold.
Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of cheese should I use?
Almost any cheese works! Cheddar, Colby Jack, Monterey Jack, mozzarella, or pepper jack are all delicious choices.
For kids’ lunchboxes, we like using a mild cheese and cutting it into pieces that are similar in size to the carrots.
Do I have to cook the baby carrots?
No! That’s one of the reasons these skewers are so easy. Grimmway Farms Cut & Peeled Baby Carrots are washed and ready to eat. If you’re using a wooden skewer, however, you can blanch them briefly to soften them enough to pierce.
Can I make these ahead of time?
Yes. Assemble the skewers ahead of time and store them covered in the refrigerator until you’re ready to pack or serve them.
Are these good for school lunchboxes?
Absolutely! They’re a fun alternative to a traditional sandwich and can be paired with fruit, crackers, yogurt, or other lunchbox favorites.
Can I make these without skewers?
Of course! For younger children, you can simply serve the carrots, turkey, and cheese as individual bite-sized pieces instead of using skewers.

Notes
- I used a metal skewer for the carrots pictured in this recipe and in the accompanying video.
- Wooden skewers work too, but blanching the carrots first makes them easier to pierce.
- Use your favorite cheese or deli meat to customize the skewers.
- For young children, consider using shorter food-safe picks or cutting the ingredients into age-appropriate pieces.
- If using wooden skewers: Blanch the carrots for 2–3 minutes, cool them completely in an ice bath, drain and pat dry before threading.
