Dirty strawberry soda

Strawberry dirty soda is sponsored by NaturipeĀ®.

Similar to a creamy Italian soda, but we used ginger ale instead of club soda, so we’re calling it a ā€œdirtyā€ strawberry soda. The spicy ginger pairs well with the sweet juice from the fresh strawberries at the bottom of the glass.

The ginger ale also gives a homemade strawberry soda feel, without the soda maker. No fancy ingredients or tools, just a quick, easy, and fresh pink drink that any mom can pull off in minutes.

Let’s get started!

Strawberry Soda Ingredients

strawberries, ginger ale, cream, ice, and mint

You’ll need 5 easy-to-find ingredients that are available at every grocery store — no special ingredients or equipment needed.

NaturipeĀ® Strawberries

We love eating berries all year round. Naturipe offers fresh and frozen strawberries that are always picked and packaged at peak ripeness. That means their berries are always bursting with juicy sweetness and work in a variety of recipes.

Did you know? When berries freeze, the cell membranes burst. When the frozen berry thaws, the juice and sugars leak out, making them mushy. But that’s great for muddling strawberries! Whether you use all fresh strawberries or a combination of frozen and thawed, use muddled berries on the bottom and fresh slices on top.

Either way, they still have lots of vitamin C and fiber for your family.

Ginger Ale

Grab your favorite brand of ginger ale from the soda aisle at the grocery store. It doesn’t matter which one, as long as it’s the one you and your family enjoy.

Ice

If you don’t have an ice maker in your freezer, be sure to freeze some ice cubes in an ice tray or pick up a bag of ice if you’re making dirty strawberry soda for a crowd.

Half and Half

You’ll add a few splashes of half and half for that Italian soda creaminess in your strawberry soda.

Mint

Strawberries and mint just work together! Add a bright green sprig of mint for garnish. The soft pink and the bright green add a cool, refreshing touch.

How to Make Dirty Strawberry Soda

Now that you’ve got your 5 simple ingredients, let’s turn them into dirty strawberry soda. It only takes 5 minutes!

Muddled strawberries in a glass

Step 1: Muddle the strawberries.

Rinse the strawberries under cool running water. Use a pairing knife to trim off the stems and slice the strawberries. Set a few of the sliced strawberries aside for later and add the rest to the bottom of the glass. Use a muddler for making drinks, or the back of a spoon, to gently press on the strawberry slices, breaking them down into smaller pieces and releasing the juice.

Add ice, cream, and strawberry slices

Step 2: Add the ice and sliced strawberries.

Use your hands or a spoon to transfer the ice into the glass and add your leftover sliced strawberries on top.

Step 3: Make it fizzy and creamy.

Pour the ginger ale over the ice and top with the half and half. Use a bar spoon or a straw to gently mix everything together to avoid muddling the added sliced strawberries.

Garnish with mint

Step 4: Garnish and serve!

Use the pairing knife to cut halfway down the middle of a sliced or whole strawberry. Place it on the rim for garnish. Add a sprig of mint for a cooling pop of color.
