What is a hair mask?

We are sure you have heard of a face mask. You might even use them for your own self-care. They are often used to hydrate your face. A hair mask is very similar. It is a deep conditioning treatment that you can use at home to improve the health of your hair. Hair masks are usually made with natural ingredients that work to nourish and revitalize your locks.

A hair mask is worked into your hair (usually after it is damp). Then, you leave it on for 20 minutes all the way up to a few hours. This gives the hair a concentrated blast of hydration.

How Long Should You Leave it on Your Hair?

Most people leave a hair mask on their hair for 3 to 5 minutes if it is something that they use a few times a week. However, when you are working on deep conditioning, you want to leave it on for about 20 minutes.

If you are struggling with getting your damaged hair to look better, you can leave the celery hair mask on overnight. Make sure you are using it on dry hair since dry hair is not as porous as wet hair and you reduce the risk of over moisturizing your hair.

Can I Leave a Hair Mask on Too Long?

Yes, you can leave a hair mask on for too long. If your hair is wet when you apply the mask, the hair shaft is more porous and that means it will absorb even more of what you are putting on it. If the hair gets too much moisture, it can get something called hygral fatigue. This is when the hair stretches and contracts because of the moisture. Then it becomes weak and damaged. That is why if you are adding the mask for a short time on wet or damp hair. If you want to leave it on longer or overnight, add it to your hair when it is dry.
