Green Goddess Trend
The term “Green Goddess” primarily refers to a vibrant, herb-heavy flavor profile characterized by its bright green color and creamy texture. In contemporary food culture, the name has evolved into a broader culinary category, often used to describe any nutrient-dense, plant-forward dish, ranging from pestos and dips to grain bowls and smoothies—that emphasizes “green” wellness and fresh, garden-grown ingredients.

Green Smoothie Ingredients

Green smoothies are loaded with…well, green ingredients! That means there are natural, subtle flavors that are loaded with nutrients. Smoothies don’t require any cooking, just gathering your fresh fruits, veggies, and add-ins.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Green Anjou Pears
We used green Anjou pears because of their subtly sweet, tangy lemon-lime flavor, the perfect yogurt pairing in smoothies. The beautiful thing about pears is that they have soft skin, so you can chop them, then add them right to your blender.
Your pears should give a little when you gently press near the stem with your fingers. If the bottom is soft, that means it’s a little overripe—but don’t throw them away, as overripe pears are actually the best for making a green smoothie.
Dairy
Let’s add some protein with creamy Greek yogurt and milk. Feel free to use your favorite type of milk—cashew, almond, whole, 2%—anything you like. G. Since GGreek yogurt is strained, it has a thicker texture as compared to typical yogurt, that results in higher amounts of protein too. Milk is how you get just the right smoothie consistency, so it’s drinkable on the go.
More Green Stuff
This is a green goddess pear smoothie after all, so we’ll add green, mashed avocado, and a handful of fresh spinach. The avocado has good fats that help the body absorb fat-soluble nutrients, like vitamin D found in fortified dairy milk.1 Spinach is loaded with vitamins and minerals that are great for the skin, without adding calories. And your kids won’t even be able to taste it.
Add Ins
We had to finish off our green pear smoothie with some extras. We added a dash of cinnamon, a long “drizzle” of honey, and a spoonful of nutty almond butter. Have fun with it! Add bananas, kale, chia seeds, or protein powder for added nutritional benefits or just because you like the taste. Invite your kids into the kitchen with you so they can add some of their favorites, too!
How to Make a Green Pear Smoothie
Now that we’ve got all of our ingredients, this green smoothie comes together in minutes.

Step 1: Core and dice the pear.
Hold the pear with one hand and cut down the middle of the pear, from the neck to the bottom, with your dominant hand. You won’t be able to cut through the core, and that’s ok! When you’ve cut all the way around the core, use your hands to twist both halves in opposite directions to separate the two pieces.
Use a paring knife or a melon baller to scoop out the core, just below the seeds. Use your knife to cut the pear into slices and then cut the slices crosswise to cut your pear into cubes.

Step 2: Add the pear smoothie ingredients.
Add your choice of milk, yogurt, fresh spinach, mashed avocado, chopped pears, almond butter, cinnamon, honey, and ice to the blender.

Step 3: Blend and serve.
Blend on high for 45-60 seconds, or until everything is combined with a smooth consistency.
The Produce Moms Tip
If you don’t have a high-powered blender, combine the milk, yogurt, and spinach together first to completely break down those nutrient-rich leafy greens. Then add the rest of your green smoothie ingredients and blend again.
