Let’s build our fruit Christmas tree!
Centerpiece or Fruit Tray
And the answer is… BOTH!

While for some people this 3-D Christmas tree is too pretty to eat. For most of us, we want to enjoy the California grapes as an appetizer. Turn the centerpiece into an appetizer/fruit tray by adding different dips and toothpicks at the bottom. Let kids (and who are we kidding… adults too) take a toothpick to grab a grape from the tree and enjoy with their favorite dips!
Ingredients

Guess what? You only need one ingredient to make your fruit Christmas tree. But you’ll also need a few crafty things to transform your grapes into this festive snack. Be sure to check that you have everything you need before the store closes on Christmas Day.
California Grapes
We love California grapes, so we used all three types — red, black, and green. You’ll need quite a bit more of the green grapes, so your tree is mostly green. Then, add in the red and black grapes as “tinsel” and little pops of color to really bring this juicy, sweet snack to life. Did you know that California grows 99% of the U.S. grapes?!
Dippers
Is there anything you can’t dip a grape into? You can go creamy, sweet, savory, gooey — it all works together. Some of our favorite flavor combos are caramel sauce, Greek yogurt and honey, hazelnut spread or nut butter, and marshmallow creme. Is your mouth already watering, too?
DIY Materials
You’ll need a styrofoam cone, Saran Wrap, toothpicks, and a golden sticker to make your star pick topper on your fruit Christmas tree.
The Produce Moms Tip: Make the whole tree edible! Use a trimmed pineapple by cutting off the crown (the leaves on top) and slicing away the skin. Then place the pineapple on the serving plate with the larger, flat side down.
How to Make a 3-D Fruit Christmas Tree with Grapes
It’s time to get your DIY on. Grab all of your craft supplies and your red, green, and black grapes, and we’ll get started. And don’t forget to call in the kids. They really enjoy helping.

Step 1: Prep the cone.
The most important step is to wrap your styrofoam cone with Saran Wrap. Anything made with styrofoam is not food-safe and should never come into direct contact with food you are about to eat. The Saran Wrap creates a food-safe surface so your grapes stay nutritious after your fruit Christmas tree is put together.

Step 2: Add the grapes.
Pierce a green grape with a toothpick, about halfway through, then stick the other end into the Saran-wrapped styrofoam cone. Start with the larger grapes on the bottom. Gradually use smaller green grapes as you work your way to the top.

Add the black and red grapes in any way you’d like, such as in a swirly line to resemble a garland or random spots to look like ornaments. Get creative with it! Repeat this step until your styrofoam cone is covered with green, red, and black grapes.

Step 3: Add the extra details.
Last, make your star pick. We put a golden star sticker on top of a toothpick to make our star pick. Then place it at the top with all of your dippers around the bottom of the tree. It’s like fun little edible Christmas presents. Now you’ve got the perfect Christmas Eve snack or Christmas dinner centerpiece.
