Bring some Christmas magic to breakfast!
Christmas is the most magical time of year. Bring some of that Christmas magic to your child’s breakfast! By using a few items from the produce department, you can transform ordinary pancakes into extraordinary Christmas pancakes!
To make Christmas pancakes, whip up your favorite pancake mix, cook as normal, and decorate with fruit, nuts, and whipped topping. Here are our favorite Christmas shapes to make…
Christmas Tree and Candy Cane Pancakes
You can use cookie cutters to turn your pancakes into fun shapes, like a Christmas tree or candy cane. To make the ones pictured above, we simply poured the pancake mix into a liquid measuring cup with a spout and then drizzled it into a hot skillet into the shapes we wanted. It might seem difficult to “freehand” your pancakes, but if you keep the shapes simple, it’s really rather easy! Give it a try and see for yourself.
To decorate your candy cane pancake, begin by piping on stripes of whipped topping. In between the white stripes, place a handful of pomegranate arils.
Your Christmas tree pancake might not look like much out of the skillet, but it’ll come to life as you decorate it! First, place strips of kiwi on the triangular part of the pancake. It’ll mimic pine needles and give the tree dimension. Use a few blueberries to represent the tree trunk. A strawberry makes a great tree topper! Of course, a starfruit would work wonderfully too!
Snowman Pancakes
To create a snowman, make three pancakes of varying sizes. Place the biggest on the bottom and the smallest on top. Dust the pancakes with a bit of powdered sugar. Use blueberries for the eyes and buttons. A bit of mandarin orange makes a great nose. Pomegranate arils are the perfect size to create the mouth. To form the arms, break a pecan into thirds lengthwise and lay end to end. Finally, create a snow effect by sprinkling coconut shreds onto the plate.
Santa Pancakes
No Christmas breakfast would be complete without an appearance from Santa! Use banana slices to create Santa’s beard and strawberries to form his hat. Slice your strawberries in half, from top to bottom, so they lay flat on the plate. Pipe a bit of whipped topping at the base of the hat and place a banana slice at the tip-top. Use two blueberries and a pomegranate aril to create Santa’s face.
These Christmas pancakes aren’t just fun, they’re also an easy way to encourage your child to eat more fruit or introduce new fruits, like pomegranate arils. After all, what child could resist these sweet Christmas treats?
Have a magical Christmas!
