First, prep the strawberries. Wash the strawberries thoroughly and dry them completely with a paper towel.

The Produce Moms Tip

Removing all moisture is essential so the melted chocolate adheres smoothly to the fruit!

Hull and slice off the leafy green tops so each strawberry can stand upright on its flat end.

Next, melt the chocolate. Place your chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring between each round, until smooth and melted. Alternatively, melt using a double boiler over gentle heat.

Then, dip the strawberries in the melted chocolate. Insert a toothpick or skewer into the bottom of a strawberry and submerge it into the melted chocolate to coat evenly. Place the dipped strawberry flat-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat for all strawberries and allow the chocolate to set completely.

Adding pretzel sticks to chocolate covered strawberries

Insert the “broomstick handle.” Remove the skewer or toothpick from the flat top of each strawberry. Gently press a pretzel stick into the top center to form the broom handle.

Then, add the broom details. Transfer the remaining melted chocolate into a piping bag (or a ziptop bag with a tiny corner snipped off). Pipe thin vertical lines starting from the base toward the bottom to mimic broom bristles. Optional: Pipe a small decorative white chocolate ring around the top of the broom handle band for a magical contrast!

Finally, set & serve. Transfer the tray to the refrigerator for 10 to 30 minutes to let the chocolate set firm. Serve chilled and enjoy.

Delicious Recipe Variations

  • White Chocolate Ghost Brooms: Swap the dark or milk chocolate base for white chocolate to create glowing “ghostly” witch brooms.
  • Nut Butter Twist: Lightly coat the pretzel handle in peanut butter or almond butter before inserting it for an extra layer of flavor.
  • Matcha or Green Candy Melts: Use green candy melts for the broom band to add a pop of classic witch-green color.
  • Sprinkle Magic: Dust the dipped base with black, orange, or purple sanding sugar before the chocolate sets for an extra festive sparkle!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How far in advance can I make strawberry witch brooms?

Because fresh strawberries naturally release moisture once cut and dipped in chocolate, these treats are best served the same day they are made. You can prepare them 2 to 4 hours before your event and keep them stored uncovered in the refrigerator.

Why isn’t my chocolate sticking to the strawberries?

Water is chocolate’s enemy! Make sure your strawberries are completely dry and at room temperature before dipping. Cold or damp strawberries can cause melted chocolate to seize or slip right off.

Can I use gluten-free pretzel sticks?

Yes! Gluten-free pretzel sticks work wonderfully in this recipe, making it an easy allergen-friendly option for school events or parties.
