Healthy Tricks and Treats – Halloween Candy Alternatives
Halloween is right around the corner. Usually, the first thing that comes to kid’s mind when they think of Halloween is candy. Well, it doesn’t have to be that way! There are plenty of Halloween candy alternatives for your little trick-or-treaters right in the produce section.
We’re all obsessed with things that taste like pumpkin during fall, so why not be obsessed with things that look like pumpkins too? There are several fruits that resemble the shape and color of pumpkins… Oranges, Mandarins, Clementine’s, Oh My!
Next time you’re at the store grab a couple bags of orange fruit of your choice. You can purchase them for around the same price you would spend on candy! To make it fun for your whole family, have the kids draw scary or silly pumpkin faces onto the oranges with a sharpie marker.
Creative. Fun. Healthy. Best of all, super easy!
Now, if you’re looking for a trick AND a treat, then raisins are your answer. Most kids love raisins, not only that, but raisins are a great high-energy, low-fat treat. So how do you make them into a trick? Put some raisins into individual bags, this can be as simple as a sandwich bag! Label the bags “Bat Droppings” and hand them out to all the trick-or-treaters.
Fun, right?
Another great Halloween candy alternative is apples! And if you haven’t heard, October it’s National Apple Month!
These vampire teeth are a great, healthy addition to any Halloween party. All you need is Apples, Peanut Butter and slivered Almonds. Just slice the apples, stick them together with peanut butter and add the almonds as teeth. You could always try a yogurt dip instead of peanut butter too!
