An easy trick all bakers should know.

Did you know you can substitute avocado for oil when making brownies? This baking trick works with any boxed brownie mix. Use your favorite mix and follow the instructions on the back of the box with one exception: replace the vegetable oil with avocado. Here’s the formula to help you know how much avocado to use:

1 Avocado = 1/2 Cup Oil

Brownies might not be healthy, but this trick makes them a little healthier! Avocados are a nutrient-dense food. They contain nearly 20 vitamins and minerals including potassium, magnesium, folate, vitamin K, vitamin C, and B vitamins. They are high in fiber and protein. They also contain good fats — monounsaturated — which are known to promote heart health. This makes them an ideal substitute for oil when baking.

PRO TIP: Using a food processor will help the avocado blend in smoothly with the brownie mix and other ingredients.

Go ahead, give this baking trick a try and see what you think! Be sure to let us know how it works for you.
