So next time you’re looking for something simple and delicious, give this tried-and-true combo a try.

What if I don’t want to use peanut butter for this apple sandwich?

You don’t have to use peanut butter for this apple sandwich. Whether it is because you are concerned about allergies or just do not want to use peanut butter, you can easily swap out the peanut butter for almond butter, cashew butter or your favorite nut butter. If you want something that is nut free, you can also use something like sunflower butter.

How to make this peanut butter and honey sandwich vegan

While the bread and peanut butter for this apple and peanut butter sandwich are considered vegan (as long as you are using a vegan nut butter), honey is not. It is considered ok for vegetarian diets, but since it is an animal product, it is not vegan. However, to make this sandwich vegan, you can swap the maple syrup for the honey. This will add extra sweetness and flavor.

What kind of bread is best?

You can use basic sandwich bread, either white or wheat bread, when making this peanut butter apple sandwich . If you are feeling like something more sophisticated, you can also use something like multigrain, sourdough or whole grain. You can also use a homemade or speciality bread that you slice yourself. The options are endless.

Also, a delicious twist for making this peanut butter and honey sandwich is to make it on cinnamon swirl or cinnamon raisin bread. This will give this apple sandwich an elevated taste.

Should I peel the apples?

Whether you peel the apples for this sandwich is up to you. The apple skins have a lot of nutrients and fiber. However, some kids and adults do not like skin. It is up to you on whether to peel the skin or leave them on.

Variations

You can customize this apple, peanut butter and honey sandwich to make you love it even better.

Grill it. Grilled peanut butter sandwiches are amazing. Now, add in the apples and honey to this sandwich and your tastebuds will rejoice. Add 1 tablespoon of butter and then fry the sandwich, similar to a grilled cheese. It takes about 1 to 2 minutes on each side.

Change the honey. You can change the honey to different flavored honeys, or you can also skip the honey and use maple syrup or agave syrup.

Try Nutella. While we love that this sandwich is healthy, you can add a bit of dessert flare to this sandwich by using a chocolate hazelnut spread, like Nutella.

Apples and Caramel. Like I said, as is, this is a pretty healthy sandwich. You can make this a a special treat by adding caramel sauce to the sandwich or if grilling, add caramel chips.

  • 4 slices of bread

  • 6 Tbsp Peanut Butter
  • 2 Tbsp Honey

How to Make an Apple, Peanut Butter and Honey Sandwich

Core the Envy™ Apple & thinly slice.

Spread 3 Tbsp of peanut butter on 2 slices of the bread, reserving 2 slices of bread for the sandwich top.

Layer the Envy™ Apple slices on top of the peanut butter.

Next, drizzle 1 Tbsp of honey over the Envy™ Apple slices on each sandwich half.

Lastly, top each sandwich half with the reserved slice of bread.
