Oatmeal is a rich, nutritious breakfast dish that will keep you energized all morning. But what if there was an even easier way to eat it? We turned your classic bowl of oatmeal into a breakfast casserole with Baked Oatmeal. And it’s easy to get your hands on all the fresh ingredients you need to make it: they’re all available locally though Market Wagon!

How to Make Baked Oatmeal

With just a few minutes of prep and some time in the oven, you can make a delicious Baked Oatmeal breakfast that your family will love. This recipe comes out of the oven ready to eat like a breakfast cake or casserole and filled with all the things we love about this on-the-go snack.

Start your day with Baked Oatmeal

Old-fashioned oats give it the bulk of its substance while providing plenty of nutrition. Butter, milk, eggs, baking powder, and applesauce help the ingredients stick together so you’ll end up with a pan of Baked Oatmeal, similar to oatmeal, that can be served in satisfying slices. Maple syrup, cinnamon, vanilla, apples, and walnuts give it that delicious oatmeal flavor!

You can add berries or other fruit to the recipe to add some sweet, fruity flavor. Alternatively, top each slice with some fruit after your Baked Oatmeal comes out of the oven. Our Caramelized Bananas would make a tasty topping!

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted and slightly cooled
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 3 cups old-fashioned oats whole
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup apples diced
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray a 9×9” or 11×7” baking pan with nonstick spray.
  • Whisk all of the ingredients together in a large bowl. Pour into the baking pan. Top with chopped walnuts.
  • Bake for 35 minutes or until the center appears almost set for a softer, gooier consistency. If you prefer your Baked Oatmeal drier and more solid, bake until the center has set.
