What are the best things about the winter months? While we love beautiful, fresh-fallen snow and time spent close to our families, warm and delicious food is what ties it all together! After a long day enduring dreary weather and braving the elements, coming home to a slow cooker meal makes it all worthwhile. Your family will love sitting down to a hearty bowl of this Sweet Potato and Roast Beef, steeped in flavor and slow-cooked to perfection!

All About Sweet Potatoes

We think these potatoes are sweet, but not just for their flavor! But what makes sweet potatoes special?

Sweet potatoes may have a dessert-like flavor, but they complement all kinds of savory dishes. They’re rich in both taste and texture, providing a great base for meals. But they’re also fat- and cholesterol-free and full of energy and nutrition.

Sweet potatoes contain potassium, magnesium, and iron and are high in Vitamins C, D, and B6. They also feature carotenoids, antioxidants that help protect your body against cancer and aging. Mushrooms, celery, and onions round out this Sweet Potato and Roast Beef meal’s nutritional benefits and make it the perfect way to end the day.

We think a sweet potato is only as good as the effort put into growing it, and our favorites come from the fields of Wada Farms. Since 1943, this family-owned farm has been growing potatoes, onions, and sweet potatoes and bringing them to produce-lovers around the country. They’ve grown to become one of the nation’s largest spud suppliers and use sustainable practices to grow all of their crops.

We brought together some of our favorite potato recipes in an eBook, Back to School with Potatoes. In partnership with Wada Farms, we collected dishes that are great for busy school nights but still delicious options for any other occasion. Check it out to find even more tasty potato treats.

Chuck roast and beef broth provide a meaty flavor to this dish, but it’s the veggies that really make it shine. Sweet potatoes and mushrooms add to its heartiness and bring balance to its beefy flavor.

Sweet onions and chopped celery give it a satisfying crunch and soak up the rosemary, Worcestershire, and broth flavors so every bite is juicy and delightful.

After browning the meat, let this dish cook all day. It benefits from a long cook time (we recommend 10 hours), so you can leave it all day and come home to a ready-made meal.
