Hot days call for cool treats! What’s better than a frozen ice pop to bring down the temperature on a steamy summer day? Whether you’re hanging by the pool or playing backyard games, Plumsicle™ Wine Pops and Ice Pops will keep you cool and keep the summer fun going!
Plumsicle™: A Sweet Summer Treat
Plumsicles are an incredibly sweet fruit that is BURSTING with flavor! They are delicious out of hand but also a perfect choice for making sweet treats, like ice pops.
They also happen to be some of the prettiest fruits on the market. A yellow starburst of speckles dots their deep, rich skin. Inside, you’ll find a beautiful reddish-purple flesh. Their naturally vibrant color gives our ice pops an appealing color. No added dyes needed here!
Plumsicles are available from mid-June through mid-July, exclusively from HMC Farms. They are available in one-pound clamshells and two-pound stand-up bags.
Ice Pops For All Ages!
Ice pops are a great treat for any age. By adding a little wine, you can turn this kiddie snack into a whimsical adult poptail. Pinot noir pairs perfectly with plumsicles. For the adults in the group, turn ice pops into winesicles with the addition of a light-bodied red wine.
If you want to keep your ice pops kid-friendly, simply skip the addition of pinot noir in the recipe below. If you are making an adult version and kiddie version, be sure to clearly mark which is which with a clear label. We also marked our kiddie pops by adding fresh mint to them.
Making Plumsicle™ Wine Pops and Ice Pops
Plumsicle Wine Pops and Ice Pops are easy to make. Begin by heating sugar and water in a small saucepan. Once the sugar is dissolved and the mixture begins to simmer, add in plumsicle slices. Allow the fruit to cook until they are softened — about a minute or two. Allow the mixture to cool slightly.
Once the plumsicle mixture has had a chance to cool, add them to a blender along with a little more water and blend until smooth. If you’d like to make winesicles, add pinot noir into the blender as well.
Pour your mixture into ice pop molds. Add fresh mint if you’d like. Leave a little room at the top so the ice pops have room to expand as they freeze. Freeze for four to eight hours or overnight. Freeze time is dependent on the size of your molds.
The winesicles may not freeze as hard as the kid-friendly ice pop version because of the alcohol. However, they will freeze thoroughly enough to keep their shape. If you want to “sip” your plumsicle poptail, serve it upside down in a wine glass. It’s a playful presentation and delicious too!
Recipe Note: If Plumsicles are not in season, use one of HMC Farms’ other varieties.
