The Produce Moms Podcast Episode 10

How Fresh Produce is Healing Families with Andrea Mann

“When our middle daughter, Shiloh, was 3 months old, she got very sick. She spent 96 days in the hospital, most of which she was intubated. As a result, she lost the ability to eat by mouth and ended up with a G-Tube. ”

In episode 10, Lori sits down with a real-life Produce Mom. Like we mentioned in the very first episode, many of our topics on the show are inspired by our community of Produce Moms. We want to inspire and encourage Moms all across the globe by showing them that it is possible to incorporate more fresh produce into their diets and that the long-term effects for them and their families are truly life-changing.

“She’s just a one-year-old who needed healthy food to grow, be strong and feel good. Once we switched to that, that’s exactly what happened”

Andrea is a mother of 3 children. Her second daughter, Shiloh, was diagnosed with Down Syndrome, struggled with tube feedings, and was not responding well to the formulas that the doctors were prescribing. Andrea decided to take matters into her own hands, followed her “mom” instinct, and started feeding her daughter fresh produce and other balanced whole foods through her feeding tube and she saw a complete reversal of some of the problems her daughter was having.

“Our goal for every meal is a grain, a protein, dairy a few times per day, a fruit, and a vegetable”

There’s a Produce Mom in all of us, and Andrea’s story is just one of the many that we hear about every day. Fresh produce is more than just something that’s on the food pyramid. It is changing lives, healing bodies, and helping our families become stronger and live happier, healthier lives.
