The Produce Challenge is a guide to help you eat more fresh produce.
It’s not a healthy eating club.
It’s not a diet.
The purpose of the Produce Challenge is simple: The Produce Mom wants you to consume more fruits & vegetables.
Each month I get emails and feedback from fans, sharing their #ProduceChallenge story. I thoroughly enjoyed a recent email from Allyson. She is a teenager & an officer with FCCLA, a national student leadership organization that works in partnership with The Produce Mom. If you have ever been a teenage girl, you know how difficult it can be to maintain self esteem & a positive body image.
Ally’s story warmed my heart & I’m excited to welcome her as our guest blogger today!

It’s that time of year again. The start of a new year.
I always use January as a time to identify what I can do to “be better.” Eating healthier is always at the top of my list, and I know I’m not alone with this resolution. Less than 30% of us will stick to our resolutions. Which makes me wonder: Why do so many of us fail?
Crash diets, cult exercise programs, expensive gym & club memberships restrict many of us and set us up for failure. I’m currently on week three of my first #ProduceChallenge. First & foremost, I feel better when I eat more fruits and vegetables. I have really enjoyed being active in the household grocery shopping. I contribute to the shopping list and I even shop with my parents to pick up the items I need for the January #ProduceChallenge. My family is my accountability group – we are taking the Challenge together!
I copied down the daily produce items & weekly challenge goals into my daily planner. I know from following The Produce Mom’s social media that it’s not a big deal if I cannot find an item on the calendar. Substitutions are always OK – skipping your fresh produce though, is not! So far, all of the items on the January #ProduceChallenge have been available at my grocery store. My family simply wasn’t looking for them. For the first time ever, we are motivated to try new items in the produce department – and we know what to do with them!
The #ProduceChallenge is a GREAT idea & resolution! Not only has it improved my family’s eating habits, but also my family dinner experience. Together, my parents and I have prepared the recipes associated with the fruit or vegetable of the day. We look forward to our time in the kitchen; it now feels like an opportunity to learn and spend time together rather than a place of obligation and work. We have all also seen the benefits of eating more fresh produce, like more energy!
As I continue the #ProduceChallenge, I am looking forward to trying new foods. But what I am most excited for is to remain healthy & feel better about myself in 2016. After 1 month, I know I can make healthy eating a regular habit. It’s never too late to start a change and the #ProduceChallenge from TheProduceMom.com is a great way to eat more fruits & vegetables!
