Ingredients Needed for Bolognese Sauce Recipe

Use a food processor to finely chop the Dandy® celery, onion, and carrots.

How to Make Bolognese Sauce

Melt the butter in a large pot over medium-high heat. Next, add in the onion, carrots, and celery, and sauté until the veggies begin to caramelize, typically takes about 6 – 8 minutes. Remove the cooked vegetables from the pot and set aside in a bowl.

Add the olive oil and ground beef and Italian sausage to the pot. Cook for about 10 minutes until the meat browns. Be sure to break down the meat into small pieces that are consistent with the size of the vegetables. Return the vegetables back to the pot, mix well and allow to cook for 5 minutes. Add the chopped garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes. Add the red wine to the hot pot. Which will help to deglaze the pan, getting all the flavors of the small browned bits stuck to the bottom. Scrape the bottom of the pot with a large spoon to help loosen any pieces that are stuck as they are packed with flavor!

How to Make Bolognese Sauce

Add the crushed tomatoes, milk, basil and parsley. You want to make sure that you mix this really well as it’s a big pot! Bring to a boil and then lower the heat to a simmer. Reduce the heat and simmer for 3 to 4 hours.

Stir in heavy cream and Romano cheese, mixing well to incorporate into the sauce. Season with sea salt, black pepper and crushed red pepper to taste.
