Savvy moms know that meal prep is key to consistently getting homemade dinners onto the table each night. And the savviest moms know that slow cooker freezer meals are the ultimate meal prep secret.

Slow cooker freezer meals are exactly what they sound like… pre-made meals that you can take straight from the freezer and place into a slow cooker. They are also called “dump recipes” because you simply dump all of the ingredients into one dish and cook.

Italian Sausage Hoagies are the best kind of slow cooker freezer meal because it takes hardly any time on the front end. Just 10 minutes of prep is all it takes to get this dish to the freezer.

To get this meal ready for the freezer, thinly slice a red and a green bell pepper, a couple of cloves of garlic, and a red onion. Place these items in a gallon-size freezer bag along with the Italian sausage, marinara sauce, and Italian seasoning. Mark the bag with the date and store in the freezer for up to three months.

When you are ready to cook, simply dump the contents of the bag into a slow cooker and cook on low for six to eight hours.

Of course, you don’t have to freeze this meal first. If you’re in a pinch for an easy slow cooker meal, you can skip the freezer step and go straight to cooking!

No buns, no problem! Italian sausage with bell peppers and onion is great when eaten with a knife and fork too. We like to serve this meal with coleslaw but any sort of side salad would be delicious.
