Welcome to Gabriella, today’s guest author!
I am a senior in high school.
Over 12 years of attending school.
Over 2,280 servings of school lunch.
On multiple occasions I have been asked, “What is your favorite class?” Students typically name classes such as English, Math, Science, etc. But if you are like me, although lunch is not considered an actual “class”, it is your response to the question. Many would agree that lunch is our very favorite part of the school day, even if it doesn’t qualify as an actual “class.” Not only do you get to eat delicious food, but this is also the time that you get to socialize with your friends.
I especially look forward to lunch on Wednesdays! My very favorite meal is on the menu: barbeque chicken with a side of pasta salad, and fresh vegetables. On this particular day, the lunch line goes slower than usual. I’m not the only student who looks forward to BBQ Chicken.
Ever since I was little, I have been a huge fan of barbeque chicken and always enjoy eating it. You may ask, “Why do you find school lunch barbeque chicken so delicious?” Our cafeteria uses the slow cooking method, and by 10am the “home-cooked meal” aroma travels throughout the school. The slow cooking makes the chicken especially delicious because the bones and the fat from the skin and dark meat help the flavor and texture tremendously. The tender chicken is paired with an excellent barbeque sauce. The pasta salad is a blend of vegetables, seasonings and pasta, topped off with grated Parmesan cheese – it’s light & delicious. Our cafeteria also includes a vast & dynamic selection of fresh vegetables, of which tomatoes and carrot sticks are my favorite. As a teen who wants to look & feel my best – I really appreciate the healthy selection in my school cafeteria.
I am a High School Student. I appreciate the healthy options in my school cafeteria. Click To Tweet
School meals are both tasty and nutritious. Lunch time wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and dedication from our school kitchen staff. School foodservice professionals put in many hours of preparation so that students like me are able to receive hot & healthy meals at school. THANK YOU! Lunch is my favorite time of the school day! Next time you are being served in your school’s lunch line, recognize the hard work your school’s kitchen staff does, and do not hesitate to thank them.
Happy National School Lunch Week 2015!
