Eat well while you travel. It’s possible!

Whether you are traveling locally, across the United States, or to another country, you can still eat healthy! Spring break is approaching & many of us will be driving long distances or flying to our destination. Often, we feel discouraged to find the healthy snack options while on the road, but it is easier than you think! By being mindful of the choices available, you and your family or friends won’t lose your healthy lifestyle.

All you have to do is keep these simple tips in mind during your travels and it will be your healthiest trip yet!

5 Steps to Eating Healthy on Vacation

1. PLAN

Plan ahead by packing everyone’s favorite snack for the road trip/plane ride.  All road trip snacks don’t have to be junk food – fruits and vegetables are fun to snack on too! Also, keep your temporary home/place of stay stocked with snacks to eat throughout the trip.

2. CHOOSE

Choose accommodations with a kitchenette — this option allows you to cook some of your meals while enjoying quality family time. Staying multiple nights? Have each person in your family cook a healthy recipe!

Save/print/pack these delicious recipes to make in your rental’s kitchenette. They’re quick and easy recipes, perfect for vacation!

If you’re camping, staying in a cabin, or your rental comes with a grill, try these yummy grilling recipes:

3. PICK

Pick local restaurants over fast food chains — menus will often include a few healthy options and unique dishes, which will allow everyone to try something new!

4. DRINK

Drink water — don’t forget the most important liquid for your body!  When possible, replace a sugary beverage with a glass of water. You will notice an extra boost of energy to help you get through your family activities!

If you prefer a little flavor in your beverage, fill your water bottle up with one of these infused water combinations. They’re so refreshing on a long, summer car ride!

5. CHALLENGE

Challenge yourself to try the local produce — find the popular fruits and veggies in the area you are visiting. If you try a new fruit or vegetable, share it with everyone on your trip and get them excited about trying new things! Food is a great way to make vivid memories when you travel.

It is possible to eat healthy while traveling! However, most importantly, have FUN & make memories with your loved ones. Safe travels 🙂
