I had a blast on Indy Style yesterday!  It’s always fun for me to share my message on TV.  For this month’s segment, I invited my friend Hilary Martin from Frey Farms to join me in studio.  We talked about a very important program that is available now to all schools in the United States:

The Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools program was co-founded by the United Fresh Produce Association & supports our First Lady’s Let’s Move! initiative.

The national focus of the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools program is currently on the MIDWEST region!  And the fresh produce industry is working hard to bring Salad Bars to every schools in the Midwest – our focus will remain on the Midwest until the summer of 2016!  Hilary, whose family grows watermelons & other produce items throughout the Midwest, is one of the United Fresh Captains for my hometown region!  THIS IS SO EXCITING!!!!!  And a huge THANKS to my girl Hilary for coming to Indianapolis & appearing on IndyStyle with me 🙂

Salad bars are proven to not only INCREASE the consumption of fresh produce in schools, but also REDUCE food waste!  Children are encouraged to “take what they want & eat what they take.”  It’s so inspiring for me to see our industry’s youngest consumers be empowered at school and encouraged to “find their favorite!”  This program works.  And the fresh produce industry has packaged it all up in a fool-proof & universal program.  Thanks to Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools, more school cafeterias in the United States are offering salad bars & citing incredible success,  measured in fresh produce consumption, of course 😉

Excited to learn more???  Want to see a salad bar like this at your school?
