Apple Turnovers on Indy Style - The Produce Moms

Did you see me on Indy Style this morning? It was so much fun! I made an awesome Skinny Apple Turnover in celebration of #NationalAppleMonth! A big thank you goes to my awesome partner, Sage Fruit, for the quick and tasty recipe.

Ingredients
  • 2 pieces pita bread whole-wheat, cut in half (4 pockets)
  • 2 apple skin on (I recommend Honeycrisp, Sonya, Fuji or Gala)
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup pure
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 4 tbsp cream cheese low-fat whipped (I used Greek)

Instructions
  1. Rinse, core, and slice apples.
  2. Sprinkle apple slices with cinnamon and place in a microwavable dish. Add maple syrup.
  3. Cover the dish with a lid or microwavable food wrap and microwave on high for two minutes.
  4. Stir and microwave for an additional minute or until apples are tender.
  5. Toast Pita halves.
  6. Spread 1 tablespoon of cream cheese inside each pita pocket.
  7. Divide apples into four equal portions and scoop into pita pockets.
